Press Release – Public Workshop
Free Public Workshop hosted by SLO Clean Energy about Creating a Local, Clean Energy Economy for San Luis Obispo Communities!
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — On Thursday, July 24, a volunteer group dedicated to creating a local, clean energy economy for San Luis Obispo residents and businesses (SLO Clean Energy) will host a free public workshop at the San Luis Obispo County Library Community Room.
Guest speaker, Cordel Stillman, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Sonoma County Water Agency, will present on Sonoma Clean Power, which launched in May 2014 as California’s second community choice aggregation (CCA) program.
Sonoma Clean Power is a not-for-profit electricity provider that is directly accountable to the cities and county of Sonoma. The residents and businesses within the participating cities and unincorporated areas in Sonoma County have a choice between Sonoma Clean Power and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), the investor-owned utility. Community choice programs manage the electricity generation for customers, while the investor-owned utility continues to be responsible for electricity delivery and billing.
Sonoma Clean Power offers lower rates compared to PG&E for their residential, commercial and industrial customers — while offering more renewable energy content (33% compared to PG&E’s 24%) and planning to reinvest a significant portion of their revenues into programs and projects that support the local economy and help create jobs.
Mr. Stillman will describe how, under his guidance, the communities of Sonoma began the exploration to create Sonoma Clean Power. As a case study, Sonoma Clean Power has paved the pathway for San Luis Obispo communities who want reduced rates, increased renewable energy, and reinvestment of ratepayer surplus into local jobs and economic development.
When: Thursday, July 24, 2014, 6:30 P.M.
Where: San Luis Obispo County Library – Community Room
995 Palm Street, San Luis Obispo CA 93401
